EarBuds

For most of us, earbuds have become an important part of our lives. From listening to music and voice notes to taking calls, fully-functioning and comfortable earbuds are an absolute necessity. Since we use them every day, they are even more prone to damage than anything else.

Earphones versus Earbuds

Earbuds and earphones, although quite similar in function, are very different in appearance and use. Their major difference lies in their placement, i.e., earphones sit comfortably inside the ear canal while the earbuds are placed next to the ear.

Another major difference lies in the existence of a cushion, or the lack thereof.  Because earphones have to sit inside the ear canal, they are cushioned with foam to keep the ear safe. The earbuds, on the other hand, due to their external positioning, do not need cushions to cover their edges.

Earbud Accessories

Earbuds, no matter how good or expensive they are, can easily get damaged or stop working. Especially when it comes to the wired ones, even the slightest accidental stretch could severely damage the wiring. In truth, the majority of the earbuds stop working because of the wires. The non-wired earbuds are a little more durable in this regard. Even so, certain accessories can help retain their functionality and make them a little more comfortable to use. Some of these accessories are:

Ear Gels

The inner shape of an ear can vary from person to person. Hence, the same size of earbuds may not be suitable for all ear shapes. This is where ear gels come in. They are available in three different sizes, i.e., small, medium, and large. These size variations help you find the perfect fit for your ears.
They are connected to the sides of the earbuds that come in direct contact with the ears. Ear gels are replaceable. They are made of softer materials like silicon to improve the level of noise isolation offered by the earbuds and protect your ears from getting hurt.

Ear Hooks

Ear-hooks are used to support the earbuds as you place them next to your ear. They help keep the wireless earbuds in place while you use them. Ear-hooks come in different styles but at their core, their structure resembles the external shape of an ear.
Without an ear-hook, your earbuds could fall off at any time and you might end up losing them for good. Ear hooks comes in up to six different sizes, i.e., 0.20, 0.24, 0.28, 0.31, 0.35, and 0.38 inches respectively. Just like ear gels, ear hooks are replaceable as well.

Ear Holders

Whether you are using wired earbuds or non-wired (Bluetooth) ones, they can easily get damaged or lost. Bluetooth earbuds, if not kept properly, could fall off at any time. You might even end up losing them or stepping on them.
Similarly, the wired earbuds could end up having their wires tangled. Earbud holders protect you from such mishaps. They are simply designed to keep your earbuds and their wires in place and out of harm’s way. Earbud holders are quite useful and come in different shapes, colors, styles, and designs.

While earbud accessories are useful, the quality and durability of your earbuds are even more important.  Otherwise, the investment just isn't worth it. Therefore, the first thing you should do is get a decent pair of earbuds from a reliable brand.

Choose one that is not only comfortable for you to wear but also functions well. It may cost a little more than the average pair but it will be worth it. Once you have invested in a good and reliable pair of earbuds, you can move on to get the relevant accessories.
